Hex to ASCII — Hex Decoder
Hex to ASCII uses this UTF-8 hex decoder: ASCII byte values recover their characters, while arbitrary bytes are not assumed to be ASCII.
Original newline and hex spelling test
We created Key followed by a line feed, encoded it to hex, then decoded four spellings of those same bytes. The original line feed remained in the recovered text for every row. The table displays it as \n so that this otherwise invisible character can be checked; the tool result contains the actual line feed.
| Hex input | Bytes | Parsed bytes | Recovered text |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4B 65 79 0A | 4 | 4b65790a | Key\n |
| 4b65790a | 4 | 4b65790a | Key\n |
| 0x4B,0x65,0x79,0x0A | 4 | 4b65790a | Key\n |
| 4B:65:79:0A | 4 | 4b65790a | Key\n |
The encoder produced 4B 65 79 0A. The four byte counts were measured from decoded arrays; recovered text was compared directly with the original, including the final line feed. These are measured outputs, not estimates. To repeat the experiment, choose Hex to text, paste a table input and convert. To test reverse mode, use Swap direction and result and compare the resulting byte pairs.
Accepted input
This hex translator accepts continuous pairs or groups separated by whitespace, commas, colons or dashes. An optional 0x prefix can appear at the beginning of each group. Every group needs complete byte pairs. Invalid characters are reported by position; incomplete pairs are rejected without adding a zero. Decoded bytes must form valid UTF-8 text. An invalid sequence produces an error instead of replacement characters or a partial result.
Both directions on one page
Choose Hex to text to decode hex to text. Choose Text to hex to convert text to hex. This page can convert hexadecimal to text and convert text to hexadecimal using UTF-8 bytes. Hexadecimal text here is a representation of bytes, not a decimal integer or an encrypted message. Output uses two uppercase hex digits per byte, with optional spaces.
Scope and limits
One sequence is processed per run, limited to 20,000 input characters. No login, file upload, batch mode or conversion history is required. Your input stays in the browser. This tool does not interpret arbitrary files, execute recovered code or detect a legacy character encoding.
How does this differ from Base64 conversion?
The Hex to Base64 converter encodes bytes as Base64. The Base64 to hex converter restores bytes from Base64. This page instead reads or creates UTF-8 text. It does not send hex through a Base64 conversion.
Hex to ASCII on this page
For hex to ascii, select Hex to text and enter complete hexadecimal byte pairs. Standard ASCII characters share their byte values with UTF-8; arbitrary byte sequences are not automatically ASCII text.
Does hex to ascii accept any bytes?
No. This decoder requires valid UTF-8. It does not label arbitrary bytes as ASCII or infer a legacy character encoding. The existing input rules and UTF-8 validation still apply.
